Characteristic
Impedance (Zo)
The impedance of all cable is measured using one of three Tektronix 1502
Time Domain Reflectometers(TDR), calibrated with a General Radio 900-LZ10
50 ohm airline. Measurement resolution is 0.1 ohms. The TDR is also used
for bulk continuity checks and as a fault locator for cable and assemblies.
Impedance measurements are also obtained using a Tektronix 11802 Digital
Sampling Oscilloscope with SD-24 TDR Plug-In.
Return
Loss (VSWR) and Insertion Loss (Attenuation)
A pair of
Hewlett-Packard 8510 Network Analyzers are used for these measurements.
H-P plotters are available for for graphical hardcopy output. Calibration
standards allow 50 ohm and 75 ohm test configuration.
Time
Delay and Phase Matching
The 8510
Network Analyzers are also used for these measurements. HP plotters are
available for graphical hardcopy output. Calibration standards are obtainable
from 400 MHz to 20 GHz.
Capacitance
Cable capacitance
is measured using a Doric 130A capacitance meter. Measurement resolution
is 0.1 picofarads.
Dielectric
Withstanding Voltage (Breakdown)
A Hipotronics
HD 100 HiPot Tester is used to measure the high voltage capabilities of
the cable. Measurements can be made to 6 Kilovolts, AC or DC.
Insulation
Resistance
The dielectric
resistance is measured using a Hipotronics HM3A megohmeter. Measuring
capabilities extend to 100 megohms resistance, using measurement voltages
to 1000 volts.
Corona
Extinction Voltage
This cable
parameter is checked with the Hipotronics 705-2CTS AC Corona Test Set.
Corona Emissions as low as 1 pico coulomb can be detected.
